Forest Action UK
Forest Action UK is a non-governmental organisation, registered Scottish Charity (number SCO39060), dedicated to promoting research and action to support forest communities. We understand livelihoods and sustainable use of environments to be closely linked and to require a holistic and participatory approach to problem solving. Our approach includes a strong commitment to genuine south-north partnership for mutual benefit. We seek to secure funds for development projects and action research that explores the interface of knowledge, democracy and resources capitalising on the knowledge and expertise that south-north synergies bring.Forest Action UK is the new sister organisation to ForestAction Nepal. ForestAction Nepal is a well known non-aligned, non-governmental regional centre for action research and civil society forum. They have pioneered work at the interface of practice and theory and have been instrumental in promoting knowledge exchange across a range of actors and institutions.
Building from ForestActionNepal's example, here at Forest Action UK, we believe in genuine partnership between the North and the South to produce benefits in both places. Working closely with our partners in Nepal, we are deeply committed to the transfer of knowledge and expertise from the South to the North. Through this approach, we are able to embrace forest governance challenges in the South, and also recognise that in the North much is needed to strengthen the relationship between forests and communities. Countries in the North have a lot to learn from countries in the South in this respect. Through our activities we hope to build a unique network of professionals and activists committed to progressive change in both the South and the North through mutual learning and partnership.
